Paul Nicholls, Relationship Director in Corporate Banking at Barclays Bank plc, is on the judging panel for the Business of the Year award in 2023, sponsored by OBAS UK.

This is perhaps our most prestigious award of all, and is given to an outstanding business that’s able to demonstrate exceptional financial returns, strong growth, specific innovation strategies, and market leadership in its sector.

Paul explains that the judges look for a holistic picture of the business, including its wider social and economic contribution:

“As a judge, there is nothing more compelling than finding out about a company’s past, present and future plans, and how they have positively contributed to the wider community and industry”.

Michelle Fox is the Employee Engagement Coordinator at Inspira and is helping to judge the Apprenticeship Team of the Year award in 2023, sponsored by BAE Systems.

She knows a thing or two about apprenticeships, and will be putting applicants through their paces to really understand their commitment to providing meaningful careers for people via the apprenticeship route.

If you’re applying in this category, Michelle has some advice:

“As a huge ambassador for apprenticeships I will be looking for a shining example of what it means to be an apprentice, and a team that can truly inspire others to become an apprentice, but also inspire employers to see the value an apprentice can bring to their business.”
