Former British Chambers of Commerce president Peter Mileham was the winner of the Prestonian of the Year category at the BIBAs 2012.
When the BIBAs came to Preston in 2012, it was always going to be an evening with a difference.
However, it proved to be an even bigger surprise for one local resident, Peter Mileham, who picked up a special Prestonian of the Year award on the evening.
Taking to the stage, he admitted: “It is not often in life I am accused of being short of something to say, but I truly am lost for words this time.”
He added: “As a Yorkshireman, I have to thank so many people in Preston and beyond that in Lancashire and the North West for taking me to their heart.
“It is a county which is filled with wonderful, innovative and entrepreneurial people who make it a pleasure to be in business.”
The Preston Guild is a celebration held once every 20 years in the city since 1179 when it was bestowed with a Guild Merchant.
It is an event which celebrates the trade and commerce of the area.
During 2012, the BIBAs moved from its usual venue in Blackpool to the stunning backdrop of Avenham Park, which played host to many of the Guild’s major events.
