Entries from outside Lancashire have had to be rejected from one of the county’s top awards, according to its organisers.
The Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, received a number of applications from across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and even West Yorkshire before the recent deadline for applications to its 17 awards categories.
The awards attracted a record number of entries in 2014 with more than 1,200 businesses bidding to land an award.
Babs Murphy, chief executive of awards’ organisers, the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is testament to the high esteem with which these awards are held in that businesses across the North West want to win one.
“Unfortunately, we have had to reject a number of entries because they fall outside the county boundaries of Lancashire.
“It is a real shame because there were some very strong contenders among them – we just need the firms to relocate to Lancashire to be able to compete!”
