A Lancashire education leader has urged new Prime Minister Boris Johnson to follow up his words supporting further education up with action.
Dr Lis Smith, Principal and Chief Executive at Preston’s College, said that ensuring there were opportunities for everyone to get the skills they needed was the backbone to a strong, vibrant economy.
The Prime Minister said it was “vital we invest now in further education and skills” in one of his early promises having taken over the premiership.
Preston’s College is sponsoring the Employer of the Year category at this year’s Be Inspired Business Awards, The BIBAs, which will take place in front of a sell-out crowd next month.
Dr Smith said: “It is pleasing to hear the new Prime Minister talk so positively about the difference which further education and apprenticeships can offer.
“He is correct that we need to invest more to ensure that everyone has a chance to be able to realise the full potential of their skills – increasing social mobility and strengthening our economy.
“We hope to see these words backed up with positive action and investment where it is needed in the further education sector, allowing us to make a difference.”
