New business opportunities, a boost in staff morale and positive publicity are just three of the bonuses of winning at the BIBAs, according to one winner.
Helen McVey, Chief Executive at Pendleside Hospice, winner of the Third Sector Business of the Year at last year’s BIBAs, also praised the awards for sending judges to the hospice as part of a second round of judging to truly understand what make it tick.
She said: “Winning at the BIBAs was a fantastic achievement for Pendleside Hospice and we’re still so proud to be named the best Third Sector Business in Lancashire for 2019. All credit has to go to our brilliant staff and volunteers, and of course our fantastic supporters, for making Pendleside the amazing place it is.
“Winning the award had a positive effect on the business for many reasons. We saw an increase in staff morale, with staff being pleased to be recognised for all their hard work, and we received positive PR as a result, which helps to raise the profile of all areas of the business, including hospice services, fundraising and retail.
“The award win also gave us access to learning with the BIBAs’ Academy and strengthened our link with UCLan, as well as generating new business opportunities and connections.
“Having been shortlisted for several awards in 2019, the BIBAs is one of the toughest judging panels with the ‘Dragons’ Den’ approach plus a judges’ visit to the business. It was very positive for the judges to meet with our staff team and service users, and for them to gain a good understanding of why we were deserving of the award.”
