Construction industry has proven its ability to adapt

The construction industry has proven its ability to adapt to ensure the safety of its people, an industry expert has said.

Tamsin Marlowe, Director of Building Careers UK said sites have continued to operate with strict regulations in place to ensure safety, including projects to rapidly build vital facilities for the NHS.

She echoed the words of former Health and Safety Executive chair Dame Judith Hackitt who said major regulatory reforms would be needed during and following the pandemic.

Building Careers UK is sponsoring the Construction Business of the Year Award at the Be Inspired Business Awards, The BIBAs, which is open for applications.

Tasmin said: “The construction industry has shown its ability to respond quickly and change fundamental things it does to ensure the safety of all of its people, and we can take heart from that.

“We all know that the way we work in every industry is going to have to change as a result of coronavirus and there are many things we should be looking to continue doing long after the virus has been defeated.”

Building Careers UK is one of the North West’s leading recruitment companies, with a workforce of 50 staff across the region working on roles within the property and construction industry.

It offers permanent and temporary staffing solutions to both the public and private sector, including bespoke packages for SMEs to large scale key account managed services a number of the UK’s top employers.

The Construction Business of the Year category is one of 20 prizes which are on offer at The BIBAs this year with other categories open to manufacturers, engineering businesses and construction firms.

The awards has extended its application window until July 31 to enable Lancashire businesses to get their entries completed to their satisfaction whilst dealing with the challenges of the nationwide lockdown.

Each application will be assessed against a criteria established by the awards’ organisers, the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, before deciding which applicants will go forward to interviews held in September.

The awards’ ceremony will take place in the Tower Ballroom at The Blackpool Tower on Friday, December 11.
