‘Leaders of businesses across Lancashire must be supported to ensure the county’s economy thrives’

Leaders of businesses across Lancashire must be supported to ensure the county’s economy thrives.

Dr John Lonsdale, Director of Innovation and Enterprise at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), said the business community needs to continue its support to the leaders to help them to inspire their workforces to deliver growth.

UCLan is sponsoring the Business Person of the Year category at this year’s Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, the leading awards which is close to completing its first round of interviews with hundreds of applicants.

It is also a partner of the awards in its BIBAs Academy, a package of masterclass talks by business leaders, workshops and networking events, all aimed at supporting former winners of the awards.

Dr Lonsdale said: “When we talk about the growth, creativity and diversity of our business community, we need to remember it is the people behind the companies which make all these things happen.

“At UCLan, we meet business leaders from all kinds of different companies and see those more established members of our business community going out of their way to support and mentor them, and that is really important.

“We see the support given through such programmes inspire people to try new things and push their boundaries and that is what will ensure their businesses thrive.”

Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 23), a the judging panel of the Business Person of the Year category for this year’s BIBAs will meet applicants in a round of face-to-face interviews, the first round of judging for the awards.

John added: “Each year UCLan has been involved in the BIBAs we have been inspired by the people we have met which are leading businesses in Lancashire and I have no doubt this year will be no exception.

“We are looking forward to meeting and challenging the applicants to tell us the stories behind their businesses.”

The first round of judging comes to an end on Thursday when the Medium Business of the Year and the Business of the Year judges meet applicants in the final round of interviews.

The awards will then announce the finalists for its 18 categories on Tuesday, June 5.
