One of Lancashire’s leading exporters has urged companies in the county to look at opportunities to sell overseas.
Mick Mayor, of Team Leyland International which exports automotive vehicles & parts to markets across the globe, said there was extensive support available to any business interested in getting involved in exporting.
Last week, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab urged businesses to look beyond Europe where more than half of UK exports presently go.
Team Leyland International is sponsoring the Exporter of the Year category at this year’s Be Inspired Business Awards, The BIBAs, which holds its awards’ ceremony next month.
Mr Mayor said: “There are many fast-growing markets across the world and it is vital for the strength of our economy that businesses make the most of them.
“We have built a business on selling automotive products to Europe and beyond and would urge any Lancashire business to look at what the opportunities are out there for them.
“There is a great deal of support out there whether you are an established exporter or just getting started in exporting.”
Dominic Raab was speaking to a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in Bangkok last week when he pushed for closer ser trade links with the 10-member bloc.
While Asean – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – has a combined population of 650 million, its bilateral trade with the EU is worth £36bn a year, just over 5% of the value of UK-EU commerce.
The BIBAs hosts its ceremony in the Tower Ballroom at the Blackpool Tower on Friday, September 13 with the organisers working closely alongside the venue in preparation for the night.
A spokesman for the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, which organises the annual event, said the 125-year-old venue was undergoing some maintenance work.
The spokesman said: “As you would imagine after 125 years, the Tower Ballroom often undergoes maintenance to keep it looking great.
“We are working closely with the Tower to ensure that this work does not impact on what is sure to be another amazing night for The BIBAs.”
