Further investment is required to ensure the digital technology revolution has the skills required to keep booming, it has been claimed.
Mark Oulson-Jenkins, executive producer at Studio RTR, said the sector’s growth in recent years was outpacing the number of people it requires to fill the jobs they are creating.
It is predicted that by 2021 there will be one million unfilled jobs in the digital skills sector.
Studio RTR is sponsoring the Digital and Marketing Business of the Year category at this year’s Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, which is now in the second week of its first round of judging.
Mr Oulson-Jenkins said: “Technology is becoming important to just about every sector and therefore the fight for talent is getting tougher and tougher.
“Our colleges and universities are working hard to get skilled people in to the workforce, but there still needs to be more talent if we are going to seize the opportunities which exist in the digital sector.
“But, as well as getting more people in, we need to ensure that we are continually training our existing workforce to ensure they have the skills they require and feel valued to stay in the industry.”
