Winners stories

As Lancashire’s longest-standing business awards, the BIBAs has been delivering benefits to firms and individuals across the county since 2008.

Every week we will bring you the thoughts of a former winner of one of our awards about why they applied, what the application process did for them and what being a BIBAs winner means to them.

Here Michelle Cuffe, Managing Director at double winner Excel Fostering, which picked up the Employer of the Year and Service Business of the Year at the BIBAs 2016, tells us her firm’s story…

“As the winners of two Be Inspired Business Awards in 2016, everyone at Excel Fostering feels very proud of our achievements.

“We used the application process in both categories as an opportunity to involve all members of our workforce in analysing our business and further developing our business plan…”

From previous experience of the BIBAs, we knew what we were taking part in and recognised the value such a competition provides to raise the profile of the business and provide valuable networking opportunities.

But, the application process also gave us an opportunity to reflect on where our business had come from and plan for our future.

We attended the BIBAs’ application Boot Camp session and fully participated in all the exercises and discussions which gave us an opportunity to reflect on how far our business had travelled and ideas for the future.

One of the decisions that we all agreed that day was that we wanted all of the staff to be involved in the process.

We were delighted with the hard work the staff put in; they decided the categories we should enter and understood why we were entering them.

We have used the process of the BIBAS application and interviews to inform our staff development and strategic planning for the coming years.

All the staff attended the awards evening and we all felt very proud to be winners and of Excel Fostering and the valuable work we do.

We are now enjoying being part of the BIBAS Academy and learning from other successful businesses and taking part in the valuable networking opportunities.
