From June 19, the 18 judging panels for the Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, will head out to meet applicants for a second time as part of a unique ‘Judges On Tour’ round of judging.

As our applicants prepare to face our judging panels, we have asked some leading lights of Lancashire’s business community to offer some tips on how to prepare to face the BIBAs judges.

Here Des Murphy , of The Walki Group  who is part of the judging panel for this year’s  Family Business  of the Year category, gives his advice…

Q. What preparation should a shortlisted BIBAs applicant do before they are visited by the BIBAs judges as part of the second round of judging for this year’s awards?

A. I was really impressed with the quite diverse range of businesses in both terms of types of business and also size of business.

Every business showed passion, commitment, quality and pride in what they had achieved.

Q.What is the one thing which impresses you most about the BIBAs finalists you have met either in a face-to-face interview or during a visit to their business?

A. The one thing I am hoping to get from the site visits is, are all the things described on the application form and discussed during the face to face meetings, evident in the business.

Also, do the other personnel share the same values and aspirations for the business, finally, we have had the “ top down “ view, I would like to investigate this from the “ bottom up “ perspective.

Q. If you had one piece of advice for our applicants, what would it be?

A. The one piece of advice I would offer is, Have a clear vision for the future with meaningful targets and goals
