Judging Criteria

Business Person of the Year

This award goes to a business leader who has shown particular skill in taking their business forward. He or she may be from a large or small organisation which has required guidance and leadership during a period of expansion or hardship or an entrepreneur who has managed to turn an idea into a dream, overcoming tough hurdles on the way.

Judges will be looking for:

a person who has the most wide-ranging and comprehensive understanding of the nature, scope and demands of their business.

  • entrepreneurial and business accomplishments
  • contributions to the economic well being and quality of life to the community.
  • exemplary leadership in their business field
  • business development between Lancashire and the national or global economy.

Business of the Year

Business of the Year award will be given to the company that demonstrates all-round excellence in business. The judging will focus on financial performance and future objectives, the competitive advantage of the business, and will look at examples of specific strategies which have driven business growth.

If your business achievements are impressive then this award is for you. The judges will be looking for evidence of

  • commercial success, growth & achievement
  • innovation
  • creativity
  • community involvement.

Business Woman of the Year

This award will go to the businesswoman of the year. She will have shown initiative, excellent leadership and a proven track record of achievements in terms of growth and returns and have contributed to a changed perception of women in the workplace.

Judges will be looking in particular for:

  • Business Achievement & Success
  • evidence innovation
  • growth
  • strong financial performance

Entrepreneur of the Year

This is the award for an individual who has been instrumental in the success of a business. It will take into consideration the overall performance of the business over the last three years, what the entrepreneur believes makes them different and their vision for the future of the business.

So if you stand out from the crowd and think you've got what it takes to be Entrepreneur of the Year, enter now!

Leadership Team of the Year

Are you AND YOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM , within a SME or large enterprise taken on an entrepreneurial role within the company? Does YOUR commitment and actions influence those within and extend beyond your workplace?

This award acknowledges and celebrates leadership within businesses and recognises prominent professionals whose work has had a significant and positive impact on the business and its employees.

Judges will be looking for that special something and in particular:

  • outstanding leadership and motivational qualities
  • People Skills
  • Vision
  • Mentoring and cultivating the next generation

Performance Through People

This Award will be given to the company that demonstrates excellence in its approach to workforce development. Entrants will be asked to demonstrate why workforce development training is important to the organisation, how training needs and skills requirements are assessed, and the direct benefit gained by both individuals and the organisation.  

Judges will be looking for:

  • Impact of Workforce Development
  • The Importance of training to the business
  • How skills are assessed
  • Quantifiable benefits of training and development

International Trade

Recognising the strength of British Business overseas this category focuses on International Trade asking for details of research used, challenges identified and how your business has adapted to those challenges.

As the global economy becomes increasingly important this is the perfect category to show how you stand out in the International arena.   The judges will be looking for dedicated activity in this arena and in particular:

  • Research
  • Developing Existing Markets
  • Expanding into new markets
  • Training & Languages

New Business of the Year

If your business has been operating for three years or less, why not enter the Most Promising New Business award? Entrants will be asked to provide details of how the company has performed and what its future projections are. You will also be asked to explain the background to the business, the markets it operates in, the business vision and the research that was undertaken when the business was in development. By doing so you could receive the reward you deserve for successfully setting up your business.

The judges will be looking for evidence of commercial success, innovation, creativity, sound business practices which will include:

  • Insight and vision in conceiving the new venture.
  • Creativity and innovation in developing the business
  • Ability to motivate and inspire colleagues to carry the venture forward
  • Determination in overcoming problems and setbacks
  • Commercial success and profitability of the new business

Creative Business of the Year

Is your business based in PR, design, TV, music, advertising, marketing, film or architecture? Can you demonstrate innovation and good business practice? If you have been trading for at least 12 months * then enter now.

In this category the judges will be looking to recognise and celebrate the achievement of a cultural and creative business which has demonstrated:

  • innovation and business creativity
  • good business practice
  • determination to succeed
  • commercial success

Best Use of E-Business

Judges will be particularly interested in they way in which businesses use the internet for:

  • Promoting products and services
  • Web Site design
  • Financial transactions
  • Business growth

Excellence in Customer Service

Recognising companies with a focus on customer service and care, Excellence in Customer Service has been designed for Businesses who can demonstrate excellence and achievement within the field of customer care and service.

Judging criteria will include customer service objectives and strategy, business performance, customer care, staff development plans and how this has driven business growth.

Judges will be looking in particular for:

  • Understanding customers
  • Operational Excellence
  • Customer service objectives and strategy
  • Business performance
  • Engaging Employee enthusiasm for customer care and how this has driven business growth
  • Leadership, vision and values.

Tourism Business of the Year

This award recognizes a company that has demonstrated outstanding business achievement within the tourism sector. The recipient will have demonstrated innovation, commitment and leadership resulting in the success of a tourism enterprise in Lancashire.

To qualify for this award, you must fall into one of these business categories: dining, travel, accommodations, winery and/or tourist attraction or service.

Judges will be looking for:

  • Business Achievement & Success within the Tourism Sector
  • Entrepreneurial Flair
  • Overcoming key business challenges
  • Innovation
  • Ambition

Green Business of the Year

Recognising environmentally friendly Businesses - The Green Award is designed for the company that demonstrates environmental best practice, ethical best practice or sustainable development.

Judges are particularly interested in the application of these practices and the impact that these initiatives have had on the company.

Small Business of the Year

Businesses with a staff of 50 or under which have excelled in their field, punching above their weight and demonstrating passion, growth, and commitment. We expect this to be a popular category , with dozens of worthy entries vying for the shortlist.

The criteria upon which the nominees were judged include:

Innovation

THE BIBA for INNOVATION is designed to recognise a business who has created and implemented the most effective ideas, services or products and that has achieved significant accomplishments for their business

Judges will be particularly interested in innovative initiatives which has had a positive effect on the business - in particular:

  • Innovative products or services
  • Concepts
  • Design
  • Creative Processes
